Jazz from Belgium comes to ATL

brussles trip On Thursday, July 1, Eddie’s Attic presents a very special performance featuring some of the finest jazz musicians in Europe in collaboration with two of Atlanta’s most popular performers. Celebrated pianist/composer Pierre Anckaert brings his critically acclaimed quartet from Brussels to the USA to support their PROVA RECORDS release, Strings Attached, a jazz suite featuring the Belgium Chamber Orchestra.  But before they hit the Chamber Music Festival Circuit they will perform an intimate concert at Atlanta’s finest acoustic music venue, Eddie’s Attic.

Anckaert has studied jazz at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and Afro-Cuban music in Havana, Cuba. In 2007 he won first prize at the Jazz Hoeilaart International Contest and received the SABAM Artistic Promotion Prize.  His band features internationally celebrated Dutch guitarist Guy Nikkels, as well as Belgian jazz greats Stefan Bracaval (flute) and Hendrik Vanattenhoven, (double bass).  They will be joined at Eddie’s Attic by Atlanta jazz veterans Will Scruggs (sax) and Marlon Patton (drums).

After the show at Eddie’s Attic, Will and Marlon, along with Pierre and his quartet, will pack up the veggie van and head to Raleigh, NC for three performances in the 3rd annual Cross Currents Chamber Music and Arts Festival, July 2-6. One of these performances will be with the Brussels Chamber Orchestra, with whom Pierre just released his CD: Strings Attached. For info about the Cross Currents fest in Raleigh head to www.crosscurrentsfestival.com.  There you will find details for all three performances and their venues.
